Due to the recent economy down turn, Penang Gerakan receives much feedback from the people that their income is badly affected especially for those who are living in the poverty line. Penang Gerakan is now helping those who are in hardcore poverty to receive the assistance from the authority.

On the 17th April 2009, Penang Gerakan visited 8 Tamil kindergartens under the sponsorship of Gerakan Maju Diri Foundation and also 5 families in Juru area who are believed to be hardcore poor. Forms to apply for assistance from the authority were distributed to those families.
