Always Remembered - Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu
This video, voiced by people from Penang, remembers the much loved politician Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu.
Legendary political giant Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu touched many people’s lives, most noticeably Penangites during his glory days as Penang Chief Minister from 1969 to 1990.
Tun Lim’s master plan of industrializing the then paddy fields area of Bayan Lepas into a Free Trade Zone helped propel Penang’s economy into another altitude. The Free Trade Zone also created thousands of job opportunities for people from all walks of life.
Tun Lim bridged and narrowed the gap between Penangites and the rest of the world with his ambitious building of Penang Bridge.
It was Tun Lim’s idea of building 65 storey KOMTAR building, which consist of government administration offices, shop lots and central bus station that put little Georgetown into the map of the world.
Not forgetting that despite a lot of criticism, Tun Lim was the founder of Party Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia and Barisan Nasional. Tun Lim was determined to instill his vision of integration among all races of Malaysia, hence the slogan “SATU HATI”.
The video was shown during “The Life and Legacy of the late of Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu – A Tribute by Malaysians”, held at Wawasan Open University Main Campus, Penang on January 23, 2011 (Sunday). 500 attended this commemoration service jointly organized by Party Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia and Wawasan Open University.
