Penang Gerakan reminds Penang UMNO not to take Penang Gerakan for granted in providing leadership to the State Barisan Nasional.
Penang Gerakan State Liaison Committee Acting Chairman Teng Chang Yeow said the party has been playing a forefront role in taking on the Pakatan Rakyat State Government in Penang.
“We have been supportive and complementing all the BN representatives whenever there is a state assembly sitting. Furthermore, we have been holding the DAP-led State Government to account on the decisions they have made since 308. To say Gerakan has been inactive is Penang is utter nonsense,” he said in a statement.
Teng added, “Our efforts are no less than that of Penang Umno. In fact, Penang UMNO is harming the BN in the state as whole by making such requests while knowing that by convention and practice, Gerakan has been holding the State BN Chairmanship for 35 years now and any change will not be acceptable to Gerakan.”
Teng reminded Penang Umno that the focus should be on taking on the Penang State Government and not other BN component parties in the state. “And how can BN regain the state government if we (BN) continue battling one another?” Teng asked.
“Instead of concentrating on winning back the State, certain quarters still behave as though the BN is still in control. Penang BN is no longer in government and it is high time we accept this reality. We should focus on being of a constructive opposition to the DAP-led state government.”
