Penang Gerakan today issued a statement refuting some quarters’ allegation that “the party has not been active for the past 18 months.”
Penang Gerakan secretary Ong Thean Lye said they should have done their homework and checked their facts before making such unfounded allegations.
He said in fact, Penang Gerakan had been in the forefront to engage with the DAP-led state government on almost every issue that concerned the welfare of the people.
“We had even set up a CAT Watch to monitor the state government’s policies and programmes. When there are flaws, we are always there to point them out,” said Ong in a statement.
Ong said amongst the cases highlighted by Penang Gerakan since the last general elections were the failed International Tennis King Competition organized by the state government, the land conversion, the 3 billion investment and 1,000 engineers fiasco.
On co-operation amongst Barisan Nasional component parties, Ong said Penang Gerakan had been supporting all BN lawmakers during state assembly sittings.
“We have been making the state government account for all decisions it makes.”
Penang Gerakan also campaigned tirelessly for Barisan Nasional candidates in the past two by-elections in Penang.
Ong reiterated that Penang Gerakan would continue to “check and balance” DAP-led state government without fear and favour in the interest of the people in Penang.
