Wanita Gerakan has condemned the action of DAP members for stamping on a big poster bearing the faces of Perak state assemblymen Hee Yit Foong, Mohd Osman Jailu and Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, saying the act was “disrespectful and uncivilized.”
Wanita Gerakan deputy chief Ng Siew Lai said the party was also against the culture of unruly demonstrations, including burning effigies of politicians.
She said such culture would have a bad influence on young children when they grow up.
“We sympathise with the assemblymen, as they have reasons for parting company with DAP and PKR. We must respect them as they are elected people’s representatives,” said Ng in concurring with Members of Parliament from PKR who had also slammed the DAP antics.
“This is not what Asian culture is all about. For the Malays, even when you touch someone’s head, it is considered rude, what more stepping on pictures of their faces,” said Bayan Baru MP Datuk Zahrain Mohd Hashim.
On Sunday, the Perak DAP annual convention saw its leaders and members, including party adviser Lim Kit Siang, stepping on the poster, to show their displeasure over the trio’s leaving PR.
Ng regretted that DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had hopped over the face of a female. “He has set a precedent and a bad example which is not good for our future generations.”
Ng said the DAP members’ act was extreme and unwarranted, to such an extent that their ally, PKR, was unhappy and had to publicly denounce the act.
Ng urged leaders of all political parties to tell their members to exercise restraints in their actions and words, irrespective of their political differences.
