Gerakan Youth has slammed PAS Youth for threatening to stop the Michael Learns to Rock (MLTR) concert to be held in Genting Highlands on Sept 5.

Youth chief Lim Si Pin said PAS Youth should not deny youths the right to choose their form of entertainment.

“We regret that PAS Youth is imposing its myopic view on young Malaysians. We hope the people will understand the consequences,” Lim said in a statement.

Lim said MLTR is an internationally-acclaimed Danish band with many followings and fans worldwide including in Malaysia.

“They perform songs in English and have produced live and “greatest hits” albums. We don’t understand why PAS Youth wants to deny Malaysian youth the chance to watch them perform live,” said Lim.

Lim said MLTR had performed in Malaysia before and there was nothing to suggest any form of indecency or misbehaviour in their performance.

He also hoped it was not the intention of PAS Youth to simply protest against any form of international concerts to be organized in Malaysia, without having studied the background and reputation of the performers.

“In a progressive society, we should allow room for the people, especially youth, to choose their own form of entertainment, whether it be an opera show, a rock concert or a performing art show,” said Lim.

PAS Youth had issued a strong protest to the Cabinet’s decision in approving the concert. Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi said his party would not hesitate in mobilizing its members to prevent the concert from happening if the performance was not stopped.

He said the Cabinet’s approval was an “insult” to all Muslims in the country. The movement had also protested previous gigs by Beyonce, Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani.
