Penang Bridge users holding Touch ‘n’ Go cards can continue to enjoy the 20 per cent toll discount.

Penang Gerakan Youth chief Oh Tong Keong said Penang Bridge Sdn Bhd (PBSB) had reinstated the discount with effect from Aug 10.

PBSB had withdrawn the toll discount since April 1, giving the reason that it was to prevent abuse or misuse of the card.

Oh, who had on July 20 submitted an appeal letter to PBSB for the discount to be reinstated, welcomed PBSB’s decision, saying the discount would lessen the financial burden of users, especially during the current economic situation.

A copy of the appeal letter was also sent to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Gerakan president and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor and Malaysian Highway Authority director-general Ismail Md Salleh.

Oh hoped the company would also refund to Touch ‘n” Go card holders, the balance it collected between April 1 and Aug 10.

Motorists using the cards need only pay RM5.60 for using the bridge instead of RM7 for those who paid cash.

An average of 200,000 bridges used the Touch ‘n’ Go cards, of which 115,000 were regular users.
