Party interest above people’s interest

The intra-party conflicts also revealed that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had no control over his lackeys and other members of his government.

The infighting among PKR, DAP and PAS in Penang over personality clashes and petty issues has shown that the leaders pay more attention to party and self interests above the people’s interest.

Penang Gerakan Youth chief Oh Tong Keong said instead of focusing on administrating the state in the interest of the people, these leaders openly vented their anger and frustrations against one another on almost every issue of the day for reasons best known themselves.

“They profess the CAT (competent, accountable and transparent) government but what we see is a government of complaining, accusing and fact-twisting,” said Oh in a statement.

Oh was commenting on the latest incident of public spat involving Chief Minister’s chief of staff, Ooi Chuan Aun and Penang Municipal Councillor Mohd Razali Abdullah (from PKR). Ooi complained that Razali is a “religious extremist” because he is a member of Jemaah Islah Malaysia (JIM) and should be removed as a councilor. In turn, Razali accused Ooi of slacking in his work as chairman of the state-appointed special task force to handle telecommuncations infrastructure issue. Yesterday, Penang PAS deputy commissioner Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said Ooi was undermining Pakatan in Penang by continuing to attack Razali.

Oh said their bickering compounded the belief that the Pakatan Rakyat is only a “marriage of convenience”.

He said the intra-party conflicts also revealed that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had no control over his lackeys and other members of his government.
