Gerakan Youth hopes the Cabinet, at its meeting on Wednesday, will call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate the death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock.

Its chief, Lim Si Pin, said the commission, comprising members with good integrity and of high-public standing, would carry out a fair, comprehensive, and professional investigation.

“Teoh’s family as well as the public in general needs an assurance from the government to have a fair and transparent investigation on the case. They want the truth to prevail,” said Lim in a statement.

Lim said Gerakan Youth was also against any form of selective persecution by enforcement agencies including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC). “For instance, MACC should investigate a complaint, irrespective of whether the complaint is filed against someone in the government or in the opposition.”

He said the government should also look allegations of inappropriate or brutal interrogation techniques used by enforcement agencies.
