(1) The Central Committee (CC) of Gerakan at its meeting today did not review the Central Working Committee (CWC) three-year suspension on Huan Cheng Guan, made earlier on 31 May 2009.
(2) The CC decided to set up a special committee comprising three (3) experienced veteran leaders to review this case and monitor his behavior from now on and to recommend to the CC any appropriate action.
(3) This special committee may receive and hear representations. Unless it decides to do so earlier, the committee will make periodic reviews and report to the CC every six (6) months.
(4) The special committee is headed by Tan Sri Chan Choong Tak, a veteran since 1974 who served as the party’s secretary-general from 1989 to 1999. An experienced lawyer, Tan Sri Chan was the President of the Malaysian Senate from 1990 to 1993.
(5) Another member is Ng Lip Yong, in the party since 1981. He is an engineer who is a former party Vice-President until 2008 and a former Youth Chief in the early 90s. Ng served as Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry from 2006 to 2008.
(6) The third member is Dr Chee See Cheok, a party veteran since 1977, and also presently a CC member elected by the Life Members Council.
