Penang Gerakan members will wear the Purple Ribbon to show support for the party’s drive against the political culture of using violence.

Penang Gerakan state liaison committee chairman Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan said the youth and wanita members are also supporting the drive to say NO to the political culture of using violence or threat to stop people from exercising their democratic rights.

“We condemn such political culture and threats to achieve one’s political objective. We subscribe to the spirit of a healthy political culture and discipline,” he said in a statement.

He said the party would encourage all party members including those in divisions and branches to support the campaign.

So far this month alone, there had been three cases of people receiving threatening letters over political issues.

The wear Purple Ribbon campaign was launched by Penang Gerakan on Wednesday.
