We need a fair and just Malaysia

Press Statement by Penang Gerakan State Liaison Committee Chairman, Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan

The Barisan Nasional should implement a systematic and long-term service programme for the people, said Penang Gerakan Chairman Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan.

He said handing out last minute goodies would not work now, especially for the young voters.

“The people want to see a fair and just Malaysia and any service or aids that needed to be given should be given, irrespective of race or creed,” said Dr Teng, adding that the 1Malaysia concept of People first, Performance Now propagated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was what Malaysians needed now.

He was commenting on an interview by Utusan Malaysia with Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Sunday during which Muhyiddin was quoted as saying that the Chinese seemed not to appreciate goodies handed out by the Barisan Nasional during the recent by-election in Batu Gantang.

Dr Teng said voters today abhorred racial undertones in policies and speeches.

“The Barisan Nasional leadership must analyse and study in detail why the Chinese and Indians and a big number of young Malay voters chose to support a party which is racially extreme and religiously theocratic like PAS,” he said.
