Kedah DAP making a U-turn

The offer by Kota Darulaman assemblyman Lee Guan Aik to quit the state government was only a farce and a political stunt to camouflage his failure and his party to protect the interest of the people.

Kedah DAP has taken the people for a ride as it is making a U-turn on its decision to leave the Pas-led Kedah state government, said Kedah Gerakan chairman Dr Cheah Soon Hai.

Dr Cheah said the reversed decision proved critics’ notion that the DAP was putting its party interest above the people’s interest.

“The offer by Kota Darulaman assemblyman Lee Guan Aik to quit the state government was only a farce and a political stunt to camouflage his failure and his party to protect the interest of the people,” said Dr Cheah, who is also Derga State Assemblyman.

Dr Cheah said Kedah DAP had apparently made noise against PAS, just to put up a show for the public to see.

“We must remember that DAP and Lee had failed to resolve several issues which caused unhappiness amongst the people,” he said, adding that until today the Kedah government had yet to find an acceptable alternative site for the demolished illegal abattoir in Jalan Putra.

Dr Cheah said the DAP and PKR had also failed miserably to fight for the rights of the people, especially over the Kedah government’s policy of a 50 per cent housing quota for Bumiputeras and the delay in approving a building plan submitted by the Kedah Buddhist Association.

Dr Cheah recalled that Lee had threatened to pull out from the state government if Pas did not withdraw the 50 per cent housing quota for Bumiputeras policy but until today after one year nothing happened.

Kedah DAP chief Thomas Su Keong Siong said recently that the party was pulling out of the Kedah state government, accusing it of being insensitive to the needs of the Chinese by demolishing an abattoir for pigs.

Newspapers reported yesterday that Kedah DAP would hold a meeting today (July 10) and the meeting was expected to decide that the DAP remained as a member of the Kedah Government. This followed a meeting between DAP adviser and Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak.
