PR Government must explain PAS’s goal in Islamic Government to the people

Press Statement by Gerakan Central Committee Member and Penang Gerakan State Liaison Committee Chairman, Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan

PAS’ insistence on forming an Islamic administration is detrimental to Malaysia, and the DAP, being its partner in Pakatan Rakyat, must ask PAS to immediately drop the idea as promised in the last General Elections.

“PAS and DAP must realise that Malaysia is a multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural society and the people are against the implementation of hudud laws,” said Penang Gerakan Chairman, Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan.

Dr Teng, who is also a Gerakan Central Committee member, said that PAS was trying to hoodwink the people into believing that non-Muslims would not be subjected to hudud laws.

“The majority of DAP leaders have been quiet on the subject. Malaysians of all races should unite against PAS’ vision in turning Malaysia into a theocratic state.”

“DAP and PKR must be held responsible and walk out of PR If they have failed to stop PAS from spreading its dogmatic ideas, which are against the spirit and principle of the Federal Constitution.”

PAS President, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, was quoted by the party’s website as saying that its stand on forming an Islamic administration had not changed.

Hadi said that Muslim theocracy would not change although PAS adopted the “welfare state” approach in last year’s General Elections campaign.
