PAS bent on Islamic State

Press Statement by Penang Gerakan State Liaison Committee Chairman, Dato' Dr Teng Hock Nan

Thursday, 11 June 2009

PAS is always striving to set up an Islamic State in Malaysia, and its talk of having a unity government with Umno is a ruse to hoodwink the people, said Penang Gerakan chairman Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan.

He said PAS had not changed its ideology and objectives and its co-operation with DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) was merely to woo the people to support the Islamic party’s cause.

“It is difficult for a leopard to change its colour. In the 2008 General Election, PAS through Pakatan Rakyat used the term Welfare State instead of Islamic State, to deceive the people,” said Dr Teng in a statement.

“Also in the Bukit Gantang by-election recently, the DAP had helped PAS to campaign for the non-Malay voters, despite knowing PAS’s objective,” Dr Teng added.

“What is the DAP’s stand especially in PKR and PAS governed states, particularly on the issue of PAS’s pursuit of an Islamic State?” he asked.

“We hold the DAP responsible in asking non-Malay voters to support PAS in the 2008 General Election.”

Dr Teng reminded the people that at the recent PAS general assembly, PAS Youth had strongly lashed out against the government’s new policy to abolish the 30 per cent bumiputera equity rule for 27 service-sub sectors which was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Several PAS delegates had also ticked off women journalists who did not wear scarves to cover their head while covering the assembly, with some even urging such journalists to be barred from the conference hall.

PAS also passed a resolution asking the National Fatwa Council to ban Sisters in Islam (SIS) and conduct a study over its approach to reclaim the rights of Muslim women, which PAS claimed was confusing Islamic society.
