Let the public know the findings

Press Statement by Penang Gerakan State Liaison Committee Secretary, Ong Thean Lye

Thursday, 2 April 2009

Parti Keadilan Rakyat should let the public know the findings of the panel set up to probe the involvement of two senior party leaders in the cover-up of illegal activities at several quarries in Butterworth.

In a statement, Penang Gerakan secretary Ong Thean Lye said the findings should be made public; in line with the Penang state government’s principles of competency, accountability and transparency.

Ong said the people should be informed, if there were any wrong-doings.

Panel chairman Abdul Halim Hussain was reported in the newspapers yesterday as saying that the probe would be wrapped up a day or two and the panel would leave it to state PKR liaison chairman Datuk Zahrain Mohamed Hashim for further action.

The panel was set up after national PKR Youth executive council member Amizudin Ahmat claimed two senior party leaders were working with several quarry operators to cover up their illegal activities.

Deputy Chief Minister 1 Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin tendered his resignation. He was picked up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption commission last week for questioning.
