Penang Gerakan State Liaison chairman Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan has urged party members not to get involved in campaigns for the Penanti by-election on May 31.

In a statement, Dr Teng said Gerakan members should instead concentrate on serving the people and helping to solve their problems.

Dr Teng said the party supported the decision of the Barisan Nasional supreme council on May 18 not to participate in the by-election which was announced by BN chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“We agree with Najib that the by-election was engineered by Pakatan Rakyat for its own political agenda and to resolve its internal problems,” said Dr Teng.

Najib had said the BN would concentrate its efforts to tackle priority issues faced by the nation such as the global economic crisis, retrenchment and the H1N1disease.
