Press Statement by Penang Gerakan State Liaison Committee Chairman, Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan
Wednesday, 8 April 2009
All political parties should not create unnecessary by-elections and political uncertainties. Instead they should concentrate more on running the government for the good of the people, said Penang Gerakan Chairman Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan.
Dr Teng said by-elections caused wastage of money, energy and time.
“Political parties and their leaders should spend more of their time mapping out plans and strategies to help the people overcome the current economic crisis,” said Dr Teng.
He said both the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat should set aside their political differences and work together to tide over this difficult period for the benefit of all Malaysians.
Dr Teng said the federal government should assist all state governments and similarly state governments run by PR should be ever willing and humble enough to work with the federal government.
“During this economic uncertainty, it is not the time to use elected positions to show leverage or popularity. It is the time to show ability and sincerity to serve the people.”
“It is time to work together to save workers’ jobs and small traders’ businesses, etc,” added Dr Teng.
