Kota Alam Shah’s DAP assemblyman M. Manoharan has again found himself in deep trouble as his disparaging remarks about Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s defeat to China’s Lin Dan in the Olympic badminton men’s single final has evoked the public anger. The people empathize with Chong Wei that he has given his best with his glittering performance during the final before losing out to the mighty Lin Dan, contrary to the ignorance and criticisms by Manoharan. Gerakan Youth Secretary General Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai slams Manoharan for his shameful remarks as he feels that it is improper for Manoharan to politicise the defeat with an aim to gain cheap publicity or political mileage.
Dr. Dominic Lau describes Manoharan’s remarks on twitter as completely insensitive and abhorrent. His distasteful remarks truly indicate the vexatious nature of PR by contemptuously politicising sporting events. Therefore, it is proved that they are only keen on gaining political mileage as Manoharan tweeted: “Malaysia will win its first gold medal in Olympics after Pakatan takes over Putrajaya.” In fact, Manoharan had previously stirred similar controversy when he suggested modifying the Jalur Gemilang by claiming its design did not reflect Malaysia.
“How can a politician moreover a state assemblyman like Manoharan be so insensitive and ignorant? While the whole nation is still grieving after losing out in the decisive final that ended our country’s quest for the first gold medal in Olympic, he still managed to chide the nation with his depreciating remarks and at the same time boasted about the PR almightiness? It is hugely untimely and sports should never be politicised with partisan politics,” says Dr. Dominic Lau.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dominic Lau also slams PAS’s Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin for not respecting the national flag by comparing it to ‘Jalur Malang’. Dr. Dominic Lau holds that Nizar’s remark not just shows that the arrogant and careless attitude of some PR leaders, it also demonstrates the lack of true respect for the national symbols of Malaysia such as national flag – Jalur Gemilang.
“I concur with MCA Deputy Youth Chief Datuk Dr. Mah Hang Soon’s statement that even in fully developed democracies, it is widely accepted that the national flag should never be dishonoured. I also noted that it is not the first time Nizar being disrespectful to the nation, he had previously offended the Sultan of Johor with the similar irresponsible remarks, therefore, I sincerely urge all politicians especially PR leaders to refrain from excessive politicking and comment responsibly,” says Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai.
