No compromise on the safety of road users

there should be no compromises on the safety of road users since the overload trucks are the major cause for road accident which involving personal injury or death including the truck drivers.

In referring to the 300 truck owners and drivers who staged a demonstration to protest against the new regulations that further burdened the life pressure of truck drives’ along Jalan Seri Negeri happened in Ayer Keroh a few days ago, Gerakan Head of Central Bureau on Environment, Safety and Quality of Life, Dr. Cheah Soon Hai expressed his support for the Land Public Transport Commission’s (SPAD) enforcement.

Dr. Cheah Soon Hai, who is also Kedah Derga State Assemblyman, said the crux of the factor that has aggravated the truck drivers’ burden does not lays on the new regulation itself. It is more on the employers who have failed to address the problems and life difficulties currently faced by the truck drivers.

“The truck owners and drivers should understand the purpose of this new regulation does not meant to embarrass the truck owners and drivers, but categorically it is to further ensure the security of the truck drivers and other road users,” He added.

“Over the years, it is not difficult to notice that trucks involved in accident were usually overloaded or speeding. And these overloaded trucks were not just endangering the safety of the road user, but it also brought damages to the road facilities in accidents,” he said.

Dr. Cheah stated that there should be no compromises on the safety of road users since the overload trucks are the major cause for road accident which involving personal injury or death including the truck drivers.
