Gerakan deputy president Datuk Chang Ko Youn today challenged Pakatan Rakyat to make an official stand on PAS’s insistence on setting up an Islamic theocratic state for Malaysia.
Chang said since PAS is a key partner of PR, which also comprises PKR and DAP, the coalition should publicly and truthfully tell the people whether they support PAS’s ultimate agenda of turning Malaysia into an Islamic Theocratic State.
“Certainly, the people would like to hear from PKR and DAP, on whether both parties are agreeable with PAS on this fundamental issue. They simply cannot tell the People to vote them in first and then only they would tell the People what they thing about this fundamental issue that affect the foundation of our nationhood,” said Chang in a statement.
He also said Gerakan would never agree to Malaysia from becoming a Islamic Theocratic state.
He reiterated Gerakan’s commitment towards upholding the Federal Constitution and building a stable political environment in Malaysia, based on the long-tested system of parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy.
“We are a political party that will not change our direction and objective just to play to the gallery or to satisfy any short term political needs,” he said.
Chang, who is also Gerakan’s head of central bureau on human rights and law, said PAS would never change its ideology and objective in turning Malaysia into an Islamic Theocratic state.
“Thus, PAS’s main purpose in joining Pakatan Rakyat to work with DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is merely to woo the people to realize its ultimate agenda,” Chang said. PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik abdul aziz Nik Mat had recently made a call to implement the hudud law if the opposition took the federal government.
