Gerakan vice-president Datuk Mah Siew Keong hopes the robust quarter growth achieved by Malaysia can be sustainable for the rest of the year.

Mah said the government had taken the right path and should continue with good economic policies while at the same time discard the bad ones.

“Gerakan hails Malaysia achieving 10.1% GDP growth in the first quarter of the year. It is a good achievement,” he said in a statement.

“Government-linked companies (GLCs) belong to the people and those running them must be held responsible,” he said, adding that Key Performing Index (KPI) must be set for all GLCs and personnel not performing must be replaced immediately.

Mah also called on the government to continue to open up a more competitive and liberalized economy, including opening competitive tenders for all government projects.

Mah also said the government was doing the right thing by asking Sime Darby chief to leave over the RM1b losses.

He said the management of GLCs which cannot show profit after a few years must also be replaced.
