The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) should investigate whether the Penang state government’s intention to give RM100 to senior citizens is tantamount to corruption.

Penang Gerakan Youth chief Oh Tong Keong said the matter was serious in view of “admission” by several senior citizens at a dinner on Saturday which was attended by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

During the Poh Hock Seah (Tua Pek Kong) dinner at the Penang Chinese Town Hall, several senior citizens stood up to vehemently say that “it is corruption” when Lim posed the question.

Lim had asked the audience whether it is corruption and repeated the question thrice and each time the senior citizens stood up to say “yes”.

In a statement, Oh said this situation was embarrassing for the state. “We are not against the state government helping senior citizens or the people. But it should carry out any policy sincerely for the benefit of the people and not to do it just to gain political mileage,” said Oh.

Apparently, caught unaware with the answer, Lim said the state government was trying to share its “riches’ with the people.
