We must emerge as formidable force

Saudara Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan has humbly requested all party leaders and members to steadfastly unite behind Gerakan so as to form a formidable force to face the impending general elections.

The state Gerakan chief stressed on a ‘do or die’ situation – that there is no time to waste, no place to bicker and no place for people to shoot at their own feet

“At this juncture, I would like to humbly request all of you to immediately join us to re-organize, re-strategies, and re-energise ourselves in facing the impending general elections,” he said in his keynote address at the state delegates conference held at the party headquarters in Macalister Road.

Dr Teng said he was glad that Gerakan and other State BN component parties such as Umno, MCA, MIC and PPP were able to work closely and cohesively as ONE BN in Penang.

‘Today, all the BN component party leaders are with us here to give their support to our party. Let us give them a round of welcoming applause,” he said as members responded, clapping their hands in agreement.

Dr Teng, who is also State Barisan Nasional Working Committee chairman, also urged all party members and supporters to give their undivided support to all BN candidates in the impending general elections.

He said: “Our goal is very clear, we have to achieve this goal – that is to ensure unity, harmony, peace and prosperity of the Penang society.”

He noted that Gerakan now has new young leaders who can debate well with Pakatan Rakyat leaders in public. Many of our leaders have also been invited as newspaper columnists.

“Our party leadership must realize that the political environment today is very different. I will, within my ability, work with the Gerakan central leadership, to bring more capable young members to fight this ‘life or death’ battle.”

He noted that there were tell-tale signs of Lim Guan Eng moving from the ‘rule of law’ to the ‘rule by him’ as an individual! “We must STOP this from happening before it is too late!”

Recent actions by the state government:

• Refusal to endorse Penang Local Plan by the State Planning Committee (SPC), which is chaired by the Chief Minister;
• Lopsided, scandalous agreement signed between MPPP and ECO-Meridian over the sPICE project in Relau;
• Announcement of Penang Hill development according to the 1990 concept by a private developer on behalf of the Penang state government;
• Announcement of big plans/mega projects such as the proposed monorail, subway, skybus cable car etc. What has happened to these projects?

Dr Teng urged the people to vote in BN (Gerakan) into the State Legislative Assembly to provide checks and balances against Lim’s “powerful, arrogant and dictatorial” administration.

“We strongly appeal to the Penang electorate for support based on the capability, quality and charisma of our candidates.”
