In response to the video uploaded to youtube showing shocking violent school bullies, Wanita Gerakan Deputy Chief and Penang Gerakan Wanita Chief, Ng Siew Lai today condemns the act and is concerned with the deteriorating moral standards in schools nowadays.
Ng urges parents to pay more attention to the wellbeing of their children as there has been a considerable number of cases involving students behaving wildly and beyond control at schools. The trend nowadays shows that a lot of adolescence are having psychological and emotional issues which requires the immediate attention from both the parents and the school. Such rebellious, immoral and wild behaviors are most probably caused by the lack of guidance and love from the surrounding as well as the negative influence from the media. Parents should show more care and love to their children and spend more quality time with their children.
Ng said that the Education Ministry should not dump too much administrative workload on the counselors in order to allow counselors more time for problematic students. School counselors should be more aware of students with attitude problem and also students who are prone to being bullies or the bullied at school, thus giving them sufficient support and guidance. Ng also says that effective preventive measures should be taken and not take action only when incidences that are uncalled for happen.
Ng finds that the education system emphasizes too much on academic performance and neglected the mental and personal development of students. Ng urges both parents and teachers to work on instilling moral values to students to stop matters from getting from bad to worst. It is important that the moral values of the students be strengthened so that they would not burden the society by becoming a social problem.
