“Public should be encouraged and allowed to voice their opinions on the policy and laws through a peaceful mean. This is consistent with the spirit of democracy and inclusion of the people in the process of nation building”, said Baljit Singh, Chairman for Penang Gerakan Legal & Human Rights Bureau.

“We were told the Anti-ISA vigil on Sunday night at Speakers’ Square is a peaceful assembly,” added Baljit. Unfortunately the event was also attended by some of the unwelcomed guests who have the purpose of finding faults.

Baljit said the authority should take immediate and swift actions against the fault finders professionally, and not practicing double standard. The authorities should respect the freedom of expression too.
