Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has been taken to task for labeling Gerakan members “professional crooks”.
State Gerakan local government bureau chairman Teh Leong Meng said Lim should not use insulting words to scold the Opposition but to use figures and facts to prove things if the Opposition was wrong.
“Please respect the Opposition as we are only doing our job in monitoring the state government to prevent abuse of power and corruption,” Teh said at a press conference outside the Penang State Assembly.
Lim was reported in a Chinese daily as giving the label to Penang Gerakan Publicity, Information and Communication Bureau Chief Dr Thor Teong Gee and state secretary Goh Kheng Sneah.
Lim had said the duo initially accused him of practising favouritism towards Sungai Pinang DAP assemblyman Koid Teng Guan without any basis.
Teh also said that the state government was insincere in asking for Gerakan’s view on the Subterranean Penang International Convention and Exhibition Centre (sPICE) project.
He said he received an invitation through email three days to a meeting to discuss the project on Feb 14.
“It was a Friday and I was out of town until the evening of Feb 14 itself. We had emailed a list of questions on the sPICE project to Penang Municipal Council president Patahiyah Ismail on Feb 1. But there was no reply.”
He also said it was hard to believe that a private company from Kuala Lumpur would sell property worth RM300mil to the state government for only RM50mil.
