Gerakan Youth says the online circulation of the sex clip purportedly portraying an opposition leader is distasteful and should be stopped immediately.

Gerakan Youth secretary-general Dr Dominic Lau said the sex clip portrayed ill political culture which should not be encouraged. He said such political culture reflected badly on the image of Malaysia.

Dr Dominic also lamented the “slowness” of the police in handling this matter. “It has been 2 to 3 weeks since the sex clip issue was highlighted in the various media. This case should be dealt with urgently. We hope the criminal or criminals involved in producing the sex clips can be arrested soon,” he said.

A similar incident happened in 2008 when then Health Minister and MCA vice president Dato Dr Chua Soi Lek was found to have committed adultery and the video recording his act was distributed to the public. Although the matter ended with Dr Chua admitting his mistake and his resignation as a Minister, the police have yet to catch the culprit who did the recording.

“We do not want more such political sex clips to surface,” he added. Dr Dominic said other countries are watching the political developments in our country and ‘certainly we do not want to show them that our political system is only confined to sex scandals.”

He added: We also do not want to send the wrong message to the young people in our country as well. “

Dr Dominic also said the political struggle between political parties should evolve around political ideology and policies for the purpose of improving the standard of living of the people. “If politicians keep wasting their energy on such nonsense, there won’t be much time left to focus on producing better national policies.”
