Gerakan Youth has urged UPM to quickly resolve the problem arising out of its campus election, lest it escalated into a serious matter.
Gerakan Youth deputy chief Oh Tong Keong said prolonging the issue would not be good for the students as well as for the university.
Oh said UPM should accept the election result and respect the decision of students to vote their choices.
“The university must respect the rights of students & the democracy of the campus elections,” he said in a statement.
He said the students should try to settle the issue in a peaceful manner, instead of causing a fracas at the campus.
“The students concerned should be given a chance to defend themselves. Similarly, they should not take the law into their own hands and worsen the situation,” he said.
Oh said the university must treat all candidates involved in the election fairly while the rules and regulations of campus elections must also be adhered to.
On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin urged UPM and the student leaders to discuss and resolve the issue amicably.
