In view of increasing volume of traffic in George Town with the approach of Chinese New Year festival, Gerakan Youth has urged the authorities concerned to strictly enforce the law to smoothen traffic flow and reduce unnecessary traffic congestion.

Gerakan Youth deputy chief Oh Tong Keong said the traffic situation is being worsened by inconsiderate motorists who double-park, stop, park illegally or indiscriminately, thus hampering traffic flow.

Oh, who is also Penang Gerakan Youth chief, said generally the people are annoyed with these irresponsible actions and hope the traffic police and enforcement teams from the municipal councils would take strict action against the errant motorists.

“Because of degenerate times, we often see motorists parking or stopping, sometimes right in the middle of a road, to go and buy something from a shopping centre, or from a hawker stall. They seem to portray there is no law or come-and-catch me if you can attitude,” said Oh in a statement.

Oh pointed out that the majority of the people would be happy to see the police and municipal council take necessary action to improve the people’s quality of life.
