Of Small Men and Small Things

They say that sometimes it is the little little details that will reveal a person’s true character, more so if that someone is a person who is difficult to read, an expert in hiding or camouflaging his character. This is now best reflected in the recent action by the Selangor PR Government in ordering a total ban of all logs featuring 1-Malaysia in the State.
Now why would a logo featuring the nation’s flag in a shape of a 1 can cause so much fear or panic in a coalition trying to portray itself as an alternative Government, as a Government practicing CAT, a Government which has so often lamented a lack of democracy in the present Malaysian Government.
Isn’t it a joke that when PR has recently pushed for what they call the Freedom of Information Act in Penang and Selangor when they can’t even tolerate a mere logo? And if their small hearts and minds can’t even tolerate just one logo, this is bad news for all Malaysians because obviously this coalition and ‘alternative government’ has practically zero tolerance and we just can’t imagine what if they really become the Government, can we? Really frightening thoughts and a wake-up call for all Malaysians who had thought that this is an alternative Government, isn’t it? I am just wondering what would all the so many NGOs who have always been in the forefront of democratic rights and freedom say to this.
The Selangor PR Government says that all political logos are banned from billboards. Take a drive around Penang, look at all the billboards featuring greetings from PR lawmakers and Assemblymen year-in year-out and tell me why the political logos of DAP, PKR and PAS are featured so prominently there alongside the State logo. And these bunch of jokers are telling us that there should be a clear separation of government and political parties! Perhaps this is why many of these YBs should be better known as billboard YBs or banner kings! Perhaps they think that by featuring in billboards and banners all year long are ample substitutes for not being there or good enough to show their presence in their constituencies. Perhaps this is their best way of providing service to the rakyat.
Anyway, these are all food for thoughts and as I say, perhaps this is a good wake-up call for all Malaysians to really examine and re-examine the alternatives there are. Hope it is not too late to do so. In the meantime, Selamat 1-Malaysia to all and I do hope they won’t ban any articles or words featuring 1-Malaysia just in case they make it, oops!
