Gerakan deputy president Datuk Chang Ko Youn condemned Nasir’s uncalled for statement, saying he should apologise to all Malaysians.
“Although he has tendered his resignation, but as a special officer to PM, Nasir should also give a public apology. What he said was irresponsible, divisive, disgusting and ignorant and blatantly going against PM’s 1Malaysia spirit.”
Chang said Nasir’s stinging “racist” remarks not only had challenged PM’s 1Malaysia spirit but also shocked the nation and, especially coming at a time when our unity and racial harmony were being tested to the fullest.
He said recent events in the country could make the people lose their minds and go berserk. “The people must show their restraint and be respectful in their speech and action.”
Chang said rightly or wrongly, people are talking about injustice and the misguided ones could be prompted to do or say stupid things, thus disrupting unity and peace.
“Everyone must remain calm and get back to his senses, be cautious and don’t play into the hands of unscrupulous people who want to exploit the situation to achieve their political objectives.”
“Gerakan commends Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for taking quick and sharp action in removing Nasir from his post. Officer likes Nasir should have no place in Najib’s 1Malaysia civil service. The decision is in line with his 1Malaysia’s approach. It also shows Najib is very serious in tackling issues related to racial harmony.”
