24th November 2010 marked the loss of a great stateman who has played a significant role not only in Penang but also in Malaysia’s history.

Penang Gerakan is saddened by the loss of the Party’s most respected founder, Sdra. Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu. Sdra. Tun Lim, the former Penang Chief Minister for 21 years (1969-1990) was a truly distinguished politician of immense intellect, great wisdom and vision. He inspired us with his non-racial political ideology and approach in his political struggles. The late Sdra. Tun Lim was also one of Barisan Nasional’s founder.

Sdra. Tun Lim is well known as the Father of Modern Penang for engineering and industrializing little Penang into one of the largest electrical and electronic producer in the world. Penang was transformed from a stagnant economy into today’s robust island of opportunity with the dream and vision of this humble and down to earth man.

His idea for a nation free from racial political ideology was so clear that holds true until today. Sdra. Tun Lim’s efforts in promoting interracial unity and harmony among Malaysians of all races are a great achievement to be remembered by all.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Tun’s family at this difficult time. May they find peace and comfort in knowing that their loss is felt and shared by all who knew and loved Sdra. Tun Lim.

With our deepest condolence,
Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, Penang State
