All joint management corporations (JMCs) and owners of high-rise flats and apartments in Penang should grab the opportunity to apply to the state government for funds to upgrade and repaint their buildings,
following the state’s decision to approve similar projects for three blocks of flats built by the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) some 14 years ago.

Penang Gerakan vice-chairman Wong Mun Hoe said he congratulated the owners and residents of Block M3, 4 and 5 from Mahsuri, Bayan Baru, for having their applications approved recently by PDC chairman Lim
Guan Eng, who is also the Chief Minister.

Wong said the approval estimated to be to the tune of RM400,000 was announced by Lim during his visit to the apartment on March 22. They are medium-cost apartments built by PDC and sold to the residents.

“As the former state assemblyman for Pantai Jerejak, I am aware that this is what the residents have been asking for. They certainly deserve this good news,” said Wong in a press conference.

“At the same time, I would also like to congratulate all owners of high-rise flats and apartments in Penang, for it looks like they will also be getting the same good news soon. The state government, I am sure, will have no problem in providing similar assistances and funding to upgrade and to repaint all their flats and apartments,” he said.

Wong said there were many flats and apartments requiring help and assistance, starting with all those that are state-owned such as those in Rifle Range, Taman Tun Sardon, Taman Free School, Mak Mandin as well as those built by the PDC, particularly those in Bayan Baru, Mahsuri, Jalan Tengah, Taman Lip Sin, Macallum Street, Kedah Road and Seberang Jaya. Others such as those in Paya Terubong, Relau, Tanjong Tokong, Tanjong Bungah should also not be left out.

He said upgrading works should include repairs or changing of drains and so forth. “By providing such assistance and funding, the state government will definitely help the high-rise building owners who are often faced with the problem of lack of funds,” he added.

Wong added that Penang Gerakan would like to congratulate all JMCs and owners of high-rise flats and apartments as well as to reiterate our support to the state government for approving the funding to carry out upgrading and repainting works for their blocks.
