Gerakan Youth Secretary General Dr Dominic Lau today expressed his disappointment on the revised toll concession on Elite (due on May 31, 2030), Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) (ending June 27, 2026), and the Penang Bridge (Dec 31, 2021) which are extended the period of concession to year 2038. Dr Dominic Lau said that the extension period is a burden to the rakyat.

“This is especially blood boiling for Penangites and those frequently using Penang bridge because the concession for Penang Bridge was supposed to end in 2021, yet now it’s extended to year 2038 which is a whopping 17 years of extension,” Dr Dominic Lau added.

Dr Dominic also said that despite making profit each year, the highway in Malaysia is still not satisfactory, there were still a lot of accidents taking place on highways which Highway companies should be partly held responsible because the condition of the roads are not up to mark.
