In view that the BERSIH rally is only few weeks away from now, Gerakan Vice President Datuk Mah Siew Keong today urges all parties including BERSIH 2.0, PERKASA, PAS and UMNO Youth to call off all their own rally. If there is need for rallies, then do it in Stadiums instead of city centres.

“Don’t put fear and worry on the whole nation with a rally and other rallies against the rally. So many rallies will only cause fear and worry among the public and give a false impression to foreigners that Malaysia is politically unstable,” said Datuk Mah.

Datuk Mah is also concerned about the effect of the rally on the economy of our country. Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib has been working so hard to attract Foreign Direct Investment into our country to improve the economy of the nation, hence, we as citizens should support the Prime Minister’s effort and not carry out demonstrations which could ruin the Prime Minister’s hard work.

Gerakan also calls on Ibrahim Ali of Perkasa to stop making statement that cause unnecessary tension and panic. Ibrahim Ali warning to Chinese community to stock up food at home is making situation worse and create angry responses. “I have receive many calls
from people who are frightened by this irresponsible statements.” said Datuk Mah.

“Our President, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon is very firm with Gerakan’s stand that dialogue and talks are always the better channel to deliver message. The government is always willing to listen to the voices of the rakyat and we hope that people would use this channel to communicate with the government instead of organizing rallies which does no good to anyone,” said Datuk Mah.

With this, Datuk Mah hopes that all types of rally could be called off and he hopes that BERSIH organizing committee would resort to round table discussion or even open dialogues with the government to express their concerns and requests.
