Recently the issue that alleges Lim Guan Eng’s son of his wrongdoing has been the talking point of the public causing uproar among local politicians. In reference to this issue, Dato’ Mah Siew Keong, the Vice President of Gerakan is urging all bloggers as well as the netizen to refrain themselves from attacking Lim Guan Eng’s son. Gerakan sympathises the regretful situation that befell on the youth.
Besides, Dato’ Mah also clarified that technology has been misused by the public, especially the bloggers in which the act of making personal attack and smear campaign in abusive manner to sabotage one’s reputation and creating social havoc which are irresponsible and unacceptable.
Dato’ Mah also added that the political leaders of Barisan Nasional as well as their families have also been the target of internet personal attack and smear campaign in the past, which is unfair and regretful. As a result, we the members of Barisan Nasional and Gerakan want to show our empathy and concern on this issue by making a sincere appeal to both the political leaders of Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat to close ranks, unite and work closely to stop the irresponsible and immoral act of launching personal attack and smear campaign through the internet, and ultimately stop gutter politics.
Regardless of who the target or victim is under such attack, the act is not fair, demoralizing and can put a devastating blow to the self-dignity, psychological growth and stability of the victim. In this regard, Dato’ Mah is urging the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to step in and investigate this case to prevent repetition of a similar scenario. Dato’ Mah states that politics should be focused on the issues that are relevant and related to the nation, not in personal attacks and smear campaign as we have seen in this case.
