Gerakan Youth Secretary General, Dr Dominic Lau today criticizes the act of raiding an appreciation dinner held in Damansara Utama MethodistChurch by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department. Dr Dominic views the act of JAIS as highly inconsiderate, insensitive and disrespectful as the body has disrupted a peaceful community event. And clearly, JAIS had not been sensitive enough when dealing with matters related to religion for it is a common sense that religious issues are sensitive issues in this country. What is more disappointing is that JAIS was unable to produce proof of complaint when raiding the dinner, this shows how incompetent and barbaric the organization is.

“JAIS cannot be allowed to behave this way for it will be disruptive to any other community events in the future and it will definitely create anger and dissatisfaction among the public,” said Dr Dominic.

Dr Dominic views this as a very serious issue because the incident seemed to indicate that there are two differing opinions between the government of Selangor and JAIS. Dr Dominic made the above statement based on the fact that Hasan is a member of PAS and he defended JAIS over the matter whilst the MB of Selangor regrets and disapproves such act.

Dr Dominic questions whether there could be any sign of PAS falling out of Pakatan Rakyat. He also questions the ability of the PR government in managing the state’s affair because he feels that the Selangor government itself is unable to demonstrate consistency over the issue.

“How are they (Selangor government) going to convince the people of Selangor that Pakatan Rakyat is united and is fighting for freedom of assembly and freedom of religion? What is the duty of DAP as a senior partner of Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor?” added Dr Dominic.

On a more deeper note, Dr Dominic is also concerned that could there be any veiled reasons to implement Islamic policies in Selangor because if the Selangor government is unable to control JAIS, which is under the authority of Selangor government, then this would indicate that there could be some sort of islamization of the state taking place just like what had happened in Kedah. The DAP should give a reasonable explanation to the Chinese community on this matter and stop asking Chinese to support such a flip-flop Pakatan Rakyat govenment with PAS’s vision of realizing an Islamic State in the country.
