Gerakan Vice President Dato’ Mah Siew Keong today welcomes the “MyBrain15” programme which offers scholarships to students who wish to pursue a Master’s degree or PhD Doctorate degree. He also congratulates the 3,474 students who succeeded in obtaining the scholarship to continue with their postgraduate studies.

Dato’ Mah says, “This is a positive move to prevent further brain drain from our country, however, there are much more to be done to attract Malaysians to work in our country such as providing more scholarships to eligible students irrespective of their race.”

Gerakan proposes the allocation of more money to increase the number of scholarship to 10,000. With an additional 10000 PhD and Master graduates , we can visualise the impact on increasing our productivity and competitiveness of the malaysian economy.

On the brain drain issue, Dato’ Mah is in the opinion that job satisfaction and remunerations are some of the key factors which are considered when the working group hunts for a job.

“Apart from providing better remuneration, it is also crucial for the government to improve the efficiency of the civil services as well as the fairness and transparency in the governance. Based on feedbacks, we understand that many were deterred from returning to work in Malaysia was not only due to the low wage but also the system and national policy which many claim is biased and not transparent,” he added.

“The most precious resources is human resource nowadays, thus, it is important that Malaysia government learn how to appreciate the talents that the country has and don’t let the brain drain problem continue to deteriorate, failing which could be detrimental to the development and future of our nation,” said Dato’ Mah.
