BN Bukit Bendera coordinator Hng Chee Wey today expressed his deepest sympathy to the parents of a 5 year old girl who was injured by a galloping horse at Batu Feringghi beach. He also expresses his disappointment towards the Penang state government and Penang Island Municipal Council’s enforcement team failure to enforce the law to ban and curb any illegal beach activities.

Hng Chee Wey who is also the Penang Gerakan Youth Secretary said, “There has been frequent occurrence of accidence at Batu Feringghi beach, there was an accident involving a lady tourist from China was hit by a water scooter on the beach early this year, now that the beach is being hit by another tragedy, it only shows that the Penang state government and MPPP failed to learn from the previous experience and also failed to strengthen the enforcement of law against all illegal beach activities. This not only endangers the safety of tourists, it also brings negative impact to Penang tourism.

Hng Chee Wey urges the Penang State Government and MPPP to be stricter in enforcing the law to ensure that similar dangerous beach activities are banned on public beaches and to set up specific activity zone for such activities to protect the safety of tourists.

He said, “According to the report, two MPPP enforcement staffs were on duty when the uncalled for incident took place, however, they allowed the horse to gallop freely on the beach and did not provide any necessary assistance after the accident happened. It clearly shows the malpractice and incompetence of the enforcement unit of the city council. I urge the Penang State Government and MPPP to attend to this matter in a serious manner to prevent such accidence from happening again in the future. This is a very serious life related issue as it is about the safety of all tourists as well as others who carry out activities on the beach.”

Hng Chee Wey also urges the Penang State Government and Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) to ban and curb all illegal beach activities in a very stern manner to protect the safety of tourists.
