On the night of 28 March 2009, our state headquarters located at 139, Macalister Road was a place of darkness in support of Earth Hour, the global movement initiated to raise awareness on the dangers of climate changes and global warming and to bring a brighter future to our Planet Earth.
This was the first time Malaysia took part in Earth Hour, organised by The World-Wide Fund for Nature. Penang Gerakan joined our national party headquarters and other Malaysians to participate in the event. The event signified another new beginning on Malaysia’s stand and commitment towards environment protection.
Gerakan hopes that with this event, Malaysians will be more aware of the significant changes in our lives. At present, the lack of knowledge and the indifferent attitude of some selfish leaders and individuals in the country towards the need of energy conservation have resulted in pollution and significant energy wastage which inadvertently impacted the social and economic development of this nation.
Everyone should do his/her part in our daily lives to conserve energy and one can start doing so by reducing the usage of electricity or switching off non-essential lights.
Let’s start the change together by making Earth Hour not only an hour of the day in a year, but let this power-consciousness becomes a good daily habit.
