Dr Teng: Revamped Bureaus to lead Party in facing future challenges

Penang Gerakan state chairman Dato’ Dr Teng Hock Nan announces that the recently reshuffle state liaison committee agrees to revamp and set up 13 Bureaus. Each bureau is set up to face future challenges and general election, as well as steer the party in its struggle for a fair and just society for all Malaysians particularly Penangites.

“Ong Thean Lye will head the Election Task Force. This task force will look into the preparation of the necessary programs leading to the next General Election.” he said.

Dr Thor Teong Gee will head the Publicity, Information and Communication Bureau. Political Training Bureau will provide all forms of party training and will be headed by a practicing lawyer, Rowena Yam. Meanwhile Mark Ooi Swee Hing is appointed as the head of Educations Bureau to look into educational policies within the state. Baljit Singh will continue leading the Legal and Human Rights Bureau.

Michael Heah will head the Economy and Small Medium Economy (SME) Bureau. “Penang Gerakan will focus on ensuring the state’s economy continues to prosper.” Dr Teng said.

“Local Government Bureau is necessary, as the efficiency of the state government depends on the efficiency of the local government. This bureau will also look into the promises of the present authority in carrying out local government elections.” He said. Teh Leong Meng, former party whip in MPPP, will lead this bureau.

The Housing Bureau, head by Quah Kooi Heong will address the issue of affordable housing in Penang. “House prices in Penang have been escalating beyond the affordability of a normal income person. The bureau will look into present government’s low cost housing policy, and oversee the efficiency of the Commissioner of Building.” Dr Teng said.

Dr Teng said that Tan Chai Liang will lead the Environmental Bureau, which will focus on the development of Penang Hill and coastal seaside. The bureau will also look into the management of Penang’s disposals, which greatly affects our environment.

“Dr Kiew Hen Chong and Teow Jit Meng will both be leading the Complaints Bureau. Teow is appointed to handle especially complaints in Seberang Jaya, as they has got different sets of issues to be attended to.” He said.

“Lau May Ling, a chatered accountant and young wanita, will head the Public Accounts Bureau to oversee and give advice on the issues of accounts and budget of the state government.” He also said.

Dr Teng also announces that Yayasan Majudiri Bureau, lead by Gobalakrishnan will continue to give aids and assistance to the needy especially in education.

Bagan division chairman, Tan King Chee will head the Veteran Bureau. Yew Khean Siang and Ng Boon Theng, two active grassroots will head the Welfare Bureau, to look after the welfare of party members Penang island and mainland.
