Gerakan Youth Secretary General Dr Dominic Lau yesterday represented Parti Gerakan to attend the Matriculation briefing for Year 2011 by the Ministry of Enducation. Dr Dominic urges all non-bumi students to grab hold of this golden opportunity to be enrolled into matriculation, none should give up this chance easily.
Dr Dominic said, the purpose of having the above briefing is to report to all component parties of Barisan Nasional on the summary of this year’s matriculation class enrolment status.
Dr Dominic said, “According to the briefing, 10% of the matriculation enrolment will be allocated to non-bumi students which is the same as previous years practice. The enrolment requirement will be based on the 4 core subjects, 90% based on academic result and 10% based on extra-curricular activities performance. The cut off point for enrolment would be 97.45 marks.”
He also said, “Non-bumi students should strive to grab the opportunity to be enrolled into matriculation. Successful entry to matriculation entitles a student waiver of all expenses incurred in the course, on top of that, a student may straight away proceed to Year 1 in any local public university after completion of the matriculation, which is relatively time saving compared to studying STPM. Besides, the Matriculation certificate and qualification is recognized by some international universities. Pursuing a pre-u study in matriculation not only reduce the financial burden of a student, it also saves a lot of time.
Dr Dominic also urges the respective authority to be transparent in the process of enrolment to ensure that all qualified students are benefited.
