Those selected as potential candidates by the party for the next general elections should not be choosy or “picky” in the seats they are slotted for, says Penang Gerakan veteran bureau adviser Datuk Liang Thau Sang.
Liang said the party leadership had its own reasons in selecting certain potential candidates for some seats, with the confidence and belief that they are the right persons who can win.
“In the general elections, there is no such thing as a safe seat or a safe constituency. The party leadership can only field a candidate who has a good chance to win than the others,” Liang said during a durian party on July 7 organized by the bureau at the Penang Gerakan headquarters. Also present were members of the mass media.
Liang urged all party members to stay together and be united, work hard and serve the people well.
“I am glad that despite the party’s poor performance in the last general elections, there are still many members who believe in the party’s ideology and struggle – that is to serve the people based on a non-racial approach,” he added.
Among state leaders present were Dr Lim Boon Han, Goh Kheng Sneah, Ng Siew Lai, and Tan King Chee, the coordinator of the gathering.
