Wanita Gerakan has hailed the MACC’S blitz on Immigration Department officers for allegedly allowing foreigners without proper travel documents into the country, saying it is in line with PM Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s promise to combat corruption at all levels.
Wanita Gerakan deputy chief Ng Siew Lai said errant enforcement officers should face the wrath of the law, irrespective of their seniority.
“The nation needs corruption-free, qualified and talented Malaysians in the civil service. Those tainted ones should get the sack, face stern disciplinary action and be dealt with by the law,” she said in a statement.
Ng urged the government to combat corruption relentlessly.
She also hoped that when the Whistleblower Protection Bill 2010, which was tabled for first reading at the Dewan Rakyat in April, became law, the country would see lesser corruption cases, abuses of power and malpractices.
“Having such a law will encourage the people to freely give information about corruption. It is all about transparency and accountability. With this law, those who want to commit corruption or abuse of power will have to think many times,” Ng added.
Ng said there had been public complaints that individuals, some holding senior posts, had acquired massive wealth but nobody wanted to come forward to give evidence. This should not be the case.
It was reported in the newspapers that MACC had arrested at least five Immigration Department officers for allegedly receiving bribes and allowing foreigners without valid travel documents to enter the country.
