Wanita Gerakan wants the Education Ministry to be fair in its selection system when posting teachers to the interiors.
“Postings should be based on the needs, qualifications and suitability of the persons. For instance, a married woman with children should not be posted to a remote area,” said Wanita Gerakan deputy chief Ng Siew Lai in a statement.
Ng said teachers played a very important role in nation-building and urged the Ministry to discuss with teachers’ unions and stakeholders on the best way to resolve the shortage of teachers in rural areas.
On Tuesday, Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said teachers might be required to undergo three to five years of compulsory postings to the interior.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the move was important to overcome the shortage of teachers refusing to serve in the interiors despite the Government introducing incentives.
