Early Chinese New Year ang pows give away for 50 poor families of all races at the Sungai Pinang Flats here.

The Phor Thor Association and other sponsors provided the gifts to the families at the community hall of the flats, which come under the Hardcore Poor Housing Programme.

The Barisan Nasional Coordinator for Jelutong Ng Fook On who was one of the sponsors, handed over the ang pow and hampers to representatives of the families.

Ng said the event was a joint effort by the association and local sponsors to spread the cheer and luck to the underprivileged and less fortunate families.

“We gave the hampers to families of all races and each (family) got household groceries worth about RM50 and the ang pow,” he told reporters after the presentation of the gifts.

He added that the families were selected after a survey was conducted by the association to determine the poor family in the area.

“As we usher in the Chinese New Year next week, we never forget the needy and are fully aware of the difficulties faced by the underprivileged of our society,’ he said.

Ng urged more individuals to contribute to the less fortunate to help them improve their quality of life.

“We hope more people would step forward to contribute and support such programme to ensure a better quality of life for all,” he said.

He also hoped that the coming Chinese New Year would bring more joy and fruitful for all Malaysian especially the less fortunate and underprivileged group.
